3 Sisters

ELSAH, ILLINOIS USA

In Elsah, Illinois, where the water table is so high, with a multi- spring fed creek, located right next to the Illinois/Mississippi Rivers - Sycamore trees litter the lowland ….and upland forest.

Sycamore trees are a wetland tree, seeking water with their netlike root system. They do not grow on hillsides – unless there is a spring or springs. As if by magic, Sycamores dot the hillsides of the Elsah valley, proving that there is a ‘netlike’ system of springs throughout the area.

In ‘upper Elsah’ there are 3 old growth Sycamores that grow next to each other, as if to say ‘we are the sisters’…. we are the ‘sisters of Elsah’. The afternoon light illuminated ‘the sisters’, in this moment.
