Saguaro and Adobe
SAGUARO NATIONAL PARK, ARIZONA, USA
A lone Saguaro cactus peaks above adobe walls in the midst of the Saguaro National Park, which lies in the extreme southwestern United States. Like a natural monument rising from man made surfaces, it tells a story of this enduring desert ecosystem, as it tries to accommodate more and more humans. The Saguaro Desert is unique in the world and extends south through Baja, Mexico, the western edge of Mexico and the Sea of Cortez. This area of the world has been largely unpopulated by humans and is a region known for its remote nature and biodiversity. Over the past two decades, more development, tourists, resorts and precious water have been taken from this ecosystem, threatening living plants and animals.
